Zen Paws
Caring, Personalized Pet Care
About us
Hi, I'm Robin, the owner of Zen Paws, and beside me is Cassie, best selfie-taker ever. Cassie was our super friendly, easy going, once-upon-a-time-rescue who we adopted as a puppy. She was a mixed breed (collie, shepherd, lab, golden) and had the best qualities of all those breeds, including the immense amount of shedding. She was just the sweetest girl. Cassie passed away 5 years ago, about a month shy of her 15th birthday and we miss her very much. Lifelong pet lovers / owners, we have had the blessing of having several dogs, cats, guinea pigs, fish, crayfish, and many pet guests. Currently we share our home with Miss Ruby(Roo) our 5 year old mix breed rescue pup, who we adopted when she was about 4-5 months old. She was recovering from starvation, severe neglect, and had never worn a collar or been on leash and tolerated minimal touch. We didn’t know it at the time of adoption, but her growth was delayed. Described as a small mixed breed she weighed only 14 pounds at 5 months old. After a month with us, she almost doubled her weight and height, and did so again in the next 2 months… With much loving and training and playing, she blossomed into a happy, healthy, playful, agile, sweet, 56 lb shepherd mix.
An Occupational Therapist since 1983, about 13 years ago I found myself in the challenging position of having to take a medical leave of absence, and then make a career shift. Fortunately I'm doing well and 11 years ago I happily opened Zen Paws Pet Care, a small company dedicated to providing personalized, top quality pet care. I love providing a helping service, being outdoors in all weather with the dogs, meeting pet owners, and having the privilege of being in the presence of animals every day. Attending to details that are important to pet owners and customizing care for each pet's needs is paramount for me as a pet care provider. With my education and long career as an Occupational Therapist,I am an expert at these.
Additionally, we care for pets who are elderly, have special needs (such as blindness, deafness, orthopedic challenges, seizure disorders, diabetes). For all clients we do a detailed intake during our Meet and Greet, and for elderly animals or those with special needs I am available for consultation for example, how to set up a safer home environment for a blind pet, or an aging pet with weak legs.
Zen Paws values giving pets a fun, safe experience and going beyond just providing basic care. With the dogs, walks in the woods where they can sniff to their heart's content; playing ball / frisbee, nose work games, or basic agility in our fully fenced yard; walking very slowly with or assisting an elderly dog; doing special scent activities with a blind dog; carefully introducing and 2 appropriately matched dogs for a playtime. For our dogs at home and small animal home visits (cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, geckos, tortoises, fish, and more), we personalize the care according to your needs.
I consider myself lucky to be with and care for animals everyday. It is truly rewarding and fulfilling.
Zen Paws is open most weekends, evenings and holidays to help pet owners during busy work times, special occasions, vacations, and holidays.
Often we are able to accommodate last minute requests from our regular clients to help out during unexpected events such as unforeseen delays, car problems, medical / family emergencies, etc.
Safe, well cared for, happy pets by extension allow their owners to be relaxed, confident, and worry / guilt-free while they work, attend to personal needs, or during holidays / vacations. I deeply love this work.
Zen Paws offers pet sitting visits for many type of pets, doggie walks - max 2 dogs at a time, supervised playtime in our fenced yard, Zen Paws Pet Staycations - overnight care in your home (only when schedule allows), pet photography and personalized, unique photo gifts. Please see our Services page for all the details. Additionally, Zen Paws offers mail take-in, plant watering, light /curtain adjustments, and House Check services for folks on extended trips away from home.
Zen Paws is top notch, reliable, fun, personalized, and caring. We promise to take care of your pets as if they were our own.
Zen Paws = Happy Paws!
We look forward to meeting you!
"Robin is a born dog lover and a highly skilled dog handler! We have a 15 month-old not-totally-problem-free (not such a great eater, sleeper and player with other dogs) French Bulldog named Steffy. In June of this year (2016) we went away for a week. Robin agreed to board Steffy while we were away. We love our puppy silly and were very concerned how she will do at Robin’s place (by this time, Robin had only been walking her for a month). Well, after Robin sent us the first picture of Steffy we all heaved a sigh of relief, as the picture showed Steffy next to Robin’s dog Cassie and they both looked perfectly friendly and peaceful. Robin kept sending us pictures and daily “status updates” and we knew that our beloved pet was in good hands. When we came back we found Steffy in good health and as playful as ever. When we went away again in August and left Steffy with Robin, we had no concerns at all. If you need any dog services, from walking to boarding, Robin is truly the best!"

We had Robin come in to our house to care for our cats while we were away for a week. She did a great job. My favorite was that she emailed me pictures of the cats every time she visited. I would definitely use her again, and recommend her."

"We moved to Lexington from Brookline this summer and are so lucky to have found Robin. Our dog LOVES to go to her house!
Robin is kind and loving! And the best part is our dog doesn't have to be in a crate!
We love you, Robin!"

"Robin has done an excellent job caring for our mini Labradoodle. At first, our dog was shy and refused to walk, but Robin was very patient and started with just backyard outings, progressing over several weeks to full walks in the neighborhood. Robin has done a great job, and she is completely dependable and trustworthy. I am very glad I found Robin and Zen Paws."
